Darlene M. Hartson

Darlene M. Hartson, 79, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in HIA Heather’s House, Fargo, ND. Darlene was born in Enderlin, ND, on June 16, 1946, to Martin and Tillie (Stern) Anderson. She grew up and attended school in Valley City and Lisbon, ND. In 1963, Darlene married Delbert Knowlen. Together they had four children, Mark, Michael, Marsha and Debbie. They lived in North Dakota and Minnesota over the next several years. Darlene later settled in Fargo and on December 17, 1980, married Elroy Hartson. At that time, she enjoyed working at the Biltmore Hotel and later transitioned to a personal caregiver until retirement. In retirement, Darlene loved spending as much time as she could with family. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all their activities. She also enjoyed watching her favorite shows, playing games, cooking and going out to eat, where she always requested ice cream or a Coke. Darlene will be remembered for the love she had for her family and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Tillie; first husband, Delbert Knowlen; second husband, Elroy Hartson; siblings, Merrill Anderson, Eloise Stram, Glenda Anderson, Esther Fraase, Delores Hamilton, twin sister, Marlene Hermanson; and son-in-law, Rick Erickson.

Darlene is survived by her children, Mark (Joni) Knowlen, Michael Knowlen, Marsha Erickson, Debbie (Michael) Dickson; grandchildren, Bryce (Breanna), Chase (Kaitlyn), MacKenzie (Nolan), Brittini, Zachary (Jenae), Nicholas (Aurora), Steven (Shelby), Stephanie, Christian and Liberty; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Rhett, Karter, Camden, Kinslee, Stella, Anthony, Avery, Jemma, Ophelia, Silvie and Larkspur; and many special nieces and nephews, as well, many other relatives and friends.

The family of Darlene M. Hartson gratefully acknowledges your attendance and many kind expressions of sympathy during their time of loss.

Visitation will be Friday, October 17, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM, in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, ND.
