David Norman Anderson passed away June 23rd, 2025, under the wonderful care of HIA Hospice and the dedicated staff at Eventide in Moorhead, MN.
David was born on March 10th, 1932, in Lake Park, MN to Viley and Gudrun (Jacobson) Anderson. He spent many hours hunting and fishing in the woods and lakes north of town. David played six-man football while attending Lake Park High School, and because of cigarette breaks during halftime they were called the nicotine six.
David served in the US Army from1953 to 1955 with the 31st Engineer Battalion, at Ft Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado. After discharge he attended North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU) on the GI Bill. David also received a certificate from the IBM College of Automation Training Division in Des Moines, IA.
David married Marlene J Lofgren in 1960, and after living briefly in Moorhead, MN they moved to North Fargo where they raised their two children.
In 1961 David joined the Fargo Fire Department as a Firefighter. In 1980 he transferred to the Department shop as a mechanic where he maintained the Fire trucks and other equipment. He had a knack for working on engines and anything mechanical, he even built his own house in North Fargo in the summer of 1969. In those days the Firefighters would help each other in building and working on each other’s homes, they were a very talented and hard-working group of men. His detached garage was well used as he worked on his family’s cars with mechanical repairs and modifications to many 1960s and 1970s cars.
In retirement David thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters that he loved dearly, and following Marlene around on Friday night shopping trips. Kmart, Sears, JC Penny, DeLendreice’s, and Menards were all popular stops during their excursions after supper at Country Kitchen, Denny’s, or Highway Host.
David lost Marlene, the love of his life, to a rare bleeding disease in late 2003. Despite the heartbreak he continued to live in the house he built gardening, and helping his children, friends, and neighbors with home projects and small engine repairs. He thoroughly enjoyed gathering on Thursday nights with the 55 and over without partners group at the (old) Main Ave Fryin Pan. David lived in the house he built until moving to The Linden and Eventide in the fall of 2024.
David is survived by his children, Brad (Kay) and Sara (Mike) Olson; granddaughters Megan (Jessie) Stargel, and Amber (Patrick) Wellnitz; sister-in-law Donna Anderson; and many nieces and nephews on both the Anderson and Lofgren sides of the family.
David was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marlene; brothers Charles and Marlan; and 21 brothers and sisters-in-law on both the Anderson and Lofgren families.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Linden at Eventide, the nursing staff at Eventide, and the incredible support from HIA Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN, with visitation from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. and a time for sharing of memories and honors beginning at 5:00 P.M.
