David Henry Bergseid, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, Minnesota. He left behind a legacy of hard work, cherished memories, and an endearing sense of humor.

David was born on August 8, 1943, in Barnesville, Minnesota, at the McCartney House, a local two-story birthing facility. David’s early years were spent attending country school at District 29, where he either walked or caught rides on a horse-drawn hay wagon. In the sixth grade, he transitioned to town school in Barnesville. His high school years were filled with the joys and routines of farm life—doing chores, working the fields, and hunting pheasants and ducks. He often laughed about trying to shoot jackrabbits that were simply too fast to catch. On his hunting excursions, David would pack his camping kit, build a wood fire, and cook bacon and potatoes under the open sky. Tinkering with cars was another lifelong passion; his first vehicles were a Model A pickup and a 1938 V8 Ford.

David worked alongside his uncle Thomas on their farms and joined his father in carpentry work, mastering sheetrocking, cabinet building, and shingling. For many years, he was a familiar sight in the region, hauling peat from the farm's bog to local homeowners and farmers in his signature red truck. David was also a well-read man of many interests. He could converse on many subjects, including history, politics, and current events.

David was, and remains, deeply beloved by everyone he knew. Children were especially drawn to his gentle nature. Now grown, many fondly remember him for his legendary ham gravy, his delicious rhubarb pie, his sense of humor, and the thrilling tractor pulls he gave them on sleds around the farmstead.
