Dennis Delano Martin

Dennis Delano Martin, 78, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Sanford Hospice House, Fargo, ND.

Dennis was born on November 10, 1942, to Charles and Esther (Anderson) Martin, in Amourdale Township, Towner County, ND. He attended Rock Lake High School and graduated in 1960. From there he attended the University of North Dakota where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree of science in education in 1964. He began his teaching career in Starkweather, ND, where he taught math from 1965-1967. He was united in marriage to Carol Erickstad on June 17, 1967, in Starkweather, ND. Dennis enlisted with the United States Air Force, serving his country for four years. He was stationed in Omaha, NE, Sumpter, SC, Biloxi, MS, and overseas in Turkey for a year. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and moved with Carol to Hawley, MN. There he continued his teaching career, teaching math at Hawley High School until his retirement.

Dennis was quite the conversationalist and loved to visit with just about anybody. He enjoyed going out for coffee after school with the other teachers. He enjoyed sports. He coached both basketball and football in Starkweather and Hawley. He loved attending local sporting events, especially Bison Football, and enjoyed the occasional game of golf. He was an active Lions Club member and an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Dennis was always willing to help others, whether family or friend.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Carol; children, Todd and Samuel Martin; siblings, Pearl Willman, Marvin Martin, and Eugene Martin; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Esther; and siblings, Milton Martin, Laila Swenson, Leila Peterson, and Celia Johnsrud.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., followed by the prayer service at 7:00 P.M., on Monday, November 15, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN. Visitation will continue the next day, Tuesday, November 16, 2021, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Hawley Cemetery, Hawley, MN, following the service in Moorhead.
