Dennis Ray Hyde, 75, died peacefully October 21, 2021, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND. Born July 2, 1946, in Altona, Manitoba, Canada, son of Mervin Howard and Edna Mae (Blair) he was raised in rural Brooks, MN.
A 1964 graduate of Pershing High School Plummer, MN he attended Moorhead State University (MSUM) and graduated with a marketing degree in 1969. June 15, 1968, he married Colleen Beth Tinkham at Fisher, MN. They settled in Moorhead, MN and Dennis began his 50-year career in insurance sales. In 1980 he and Don Johnson formed Red River Brokerage in Fargo, ND. Dennis continued the business, later moving it to Minnesota.
Dennis had a passion for sports, especially baseball and in his youth excelled as a pitcher. Later, he was heavily involved in the Fargo-Moorhead Babe Ruth youth baseball program. He remained a lifelong fan of Major and Minor league ball. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s music and sporting events and was rarely seen without his team favorite MN Twins cap and the Twins ringtones played loudly on his phone.
Dennis loved the lake and being by the water. He was especially fond of his time with friends and family at the cabin on Turtle Lake. Later, he resided year-round on Bad Medicine Lake where he lived, worked, cut wood, and entertained grandkids for 15 years before moving to Detroit Lakes, MN. He enjoyed living in Detroit Lakes including time drinking coffee and visiting with friends around town.
Due to continuing health issues he moved to Heritage House Apartments in Fargo, ND and recently to Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, MN.
He loved flowers, collecting antique tools and baseball cards, car trips and visiting with everyone he met, remembering them all by name.
Dennis is survived by daughters Stacey Swanson and Stephanie Deitz both Moorhead, MN and son Corey Hyde, Dilworth, MN; seven grandchildren: Amy (Gavin) Gottwalt Lake Park, MN, Erica and Katie Swanson, Jonny, Jorgen, Josiah, and Jack Deitz, all Moorhead MN, a great grandson; Morrison Gottwalt, who brought him great joy, and his dear friend Luan Schuman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Gerald Karel and Roger Hyde.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church at 906 1st Ave S, Fargo, ND 58103. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to The Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes in honor of Denny; he enjoyed selling raffle tickets at We-Fest for this charity for many years.
