DeWayne Curtis Erickson, 86, of Lake Park, MN, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, surrounded by family, under the care of the staff at Sunnyside Nursing Home and Hospice of the Red River Valley. DeWayne was born March 16, 1938, in Detroit Lakes, MN to Clifford and Ruby (Haug) Erickson. He attended school at Cormorant through grade 8 and then 9-12 at Pelican Rapids High School where he graduated in 1956.
He married the love of his life Gail Halvorson on December 20, 1958, in Hawley, MN. They moved to DeWayne’s grandpa and grandma’s farm place in Cormorant, MN. DeWayne milked cows and farmed for 31 years. He started a business in 1990, Dewey’s Septic Service, and enjoyed doing this for 15 years until he sold the business in 2005.
DeWayne loved his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much. He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to sing. DeWayne provided music at many church services, weddings, and funerals. The Lord’s Prayer was one of his favorite songs to sing.
DeWayne loved to visit and always appreciated when people would take the time to sit down with him or call and share conversation. Neighbors and friends were always welcomed when they would stop in. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had a big heart, was very kind, and always willing to help someone when needed. DeWayne and Gail enjoyed watching their grandchildren’s sporting events, music concerts, and programs.
DeWayne is survived by his loving wife Gail of 66 years, son Keith (Karen) Erickson, daughters Kim (Dan) Madson, and Lisa Monson.
Four grandchildren Nikki (Justin) Mundahl, Erika (Nathaniel) Baer, Megan (Josh) Hahn, and Elijah (Nikki) Beaudine. Two step grandchildren Jason (Robyn) Madson and Josh (Nikki) Madson. Ten great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. Brother Roger (Adelle) Erickson, sister Mona Kuehl, and sister in law Marge Erickson.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Ruby Erickson, his brother Wendell Erickson, his father and mother in law Elder and Agnes Halvorson and step grandchild Jesse Madson.
A memorial service with Livestream will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour before the service at Cormorant Lutheran Church, Lake Park, MN.
Final resting place will be in Cormorant Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
