Dolores M. Lomsdal

Dolores Lomsdal, 92, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2011, at the Viking Manner Nursing Home in Ulen, Minnesota. Dolores Magdalen Giza was born in Browerville, MN, on May 17, 1918, to Louis and Hatti Waschala Giza. She grew up on her family's farm working alongside her mother and carpenter father. Dolores graduated salutatorian of her high school class and continued her education graduating from business school in Minneapolis, MN. She married Dilbert Wayne Murphy on October 24, 1939, and lived in Henning where they owned a grocery store. They moved to Ulen, MN, where they owned and operated the Ulen Food Market. After selling the market in 1967, the couple moved to Moorhead. On October 29, 1969, Dilbert died, and Dolores began working at the Clay County Court House. On March 21, 1975, Dolores married Malbert Norman Lomsdal. They lived briefly in Moorhead and Waubun where Mal farmed and was self-employed; they retired to Hawley where they lived for many years. Dolores was active in her church, family, and community. She was known for her precision sewing skills making clothing and quilts for her family members. She was an excellent Polish cook and baker, and after marrying a Norwegian, made delicious lefse and bread. She loved tending her garden vegetables, strawberries, and raspberries, and grew the best sweet corn in the area. No matter the temperature outside, Dolores was in her garden, weeding, staking, and harvesting.Dolores is survived by her husband, Mal; daughter, Dalphane Robert Williams, Perham; son, Dwight Nancy Murphy, Moorhead; step children LaMae Russell Sylvester, Fisher; LaDell Nesvig, Williston, ND; Duane Sharon Lomsdal, Hawley; Vickie Gary Marquardt, Kennewick, WA; brother, Robert Jean Giza, Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Dawn Dale Langfeld, Rothsay; Jeffrey Williams, Perham; Heidi Peter Evans, Eden Prairie; great grandchildren Alyssa Kuhn, Rothsay; Jacob Kuhn, Rothsay; and Ernest Evans, Eden Prairie; nine step grandchildren and nineteen step great grandchildren; and special sister-in-law, Ardell Skeim, Moorhead.Preceding Dolores in death are her first husband, Dilbert Murphy; son, Douglas Murphy; brother, Joseph Giza; and parents, Louis and Hatti Giza.
