Donald C. Aasland

Donald Aasland, 87, of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, under the loving care of nurses and doctors at Vibra Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Don was born January 25, 1926, to Ruby and Ralph Aasland of Thief River Falls, MN. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served and attended pre-flight school in Missouri and California. He spent one year in the Merchant Marines.
Don worked at the Thief River Falls Times newspaper after his discharge from the Navy. He met his loving wife Mavis, of 63 years. Don and Mavis moved to Moorhead where he was employed by Diercks Printing until his retirement. He enjoyed working with many local business people he met through Diercks Printing. Don and Mavis had two children, Chris and Becky and four grandchildren.

Don taught Bethel Bible Series, Sunday school, Confirmation and enjoyed small group studies at church. Christ the King was dear to his heart.

He also enjoyed travels with his wife Mavis and gathering with his family. Don was a talented water colorist and avid golfer. He was proud to have earned the Red River Valley Water Color Signature and belonged to Artists of Minnesota.

It was near and dear to his heart to meet and greet people wherever he went. We are so thankful for the time we had together and cherish wonderful memories. We love you.

Don is survived by his wife, Mavis; son, Chris Rita Aasland; daughter, Becky Charlie Wilcox; grandchildren, Christopher Aasland, Kyle Wilcox and Carolyn Wesley Wilcox Edwards; sister, Camille Ross; brother, Leroy Lucille Aasland; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, David Wilcox.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Lutheran Church of Christ the King, or donors choice.

Visitation: Sunday, September 15, 2013, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., with prayer service at 6 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Monday, September 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., in the Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead, MN.

Interment will be held at a later date in the Columbarium at the Lutheran Church of Christ the King.
