Donald L. Volker, 83, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in his home.
Donald Lee ”Don” Volker was born on June 23, 1938, in Wabash, Indiana, to Arthur and Ina (Pruett) Volker. He grew up in Moorhead, MN, and graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College High School. He attended Valley City State for a year then went to work in the boiler house at NDSU. Soon after, Don took a job with American Crystal Sugars where he remained until retiring as Senior Maintenance Supervisor in 1993.
In 1958, Don married Ida Harth and they were married 48 years until she passed away in 2006. In 2009, Don found love again and married Janice Burnside.
Don enjoyed bowling in his earlier years as well as hunting and fishing. He loved to golf and shortly after retirement took a job on the grounds crew at Hawley Golf Club which allowed him to golf for free.
Don is survived by his wife, Janice; son, James (Sylvia); granddaughters, Jennifer (Michael) Krantz, and Lindsey (Bernardo) Anderson; four great-granddaughters; sister, Randi (Dennis) Hulkonen: stepchildren, Tim Burnside, Kim Gibson and Teresa Boit; 10 step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and brothers, Maurice and Robert Volker.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, from 5:00 – 6:30 PM with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour before the service at Detroit Lakes Seventh Day Adventist Church, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Burial will be in South Immanuel Church Cemetery, Rothsay, MN.
