Dorothy M. Tangen

Dorothy M. Tangen, 96, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Eventide on 8th, Moorhead, MN.

Dorothy Marie Erickson was born June 24, 1925, in Hawley, MN, to Oscar and Mary (Krough) Erickson. She attended school at District 15 and was confirmed in Hegland Church on June 19, 1939.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Selmer Tangen on September 15, 1946. They lived on a farm west of Hawley until Selmer passed away December 10, 1997. In the spring of 1999, she moved into Hawley. She worked at various jobs around Hawley, mostly in the meat departments. Later in life she enjoyed working at Hawley Manor and volunteered at Reach for 14 years.

Dorothy went on many trips with her sister, and best friend, Carol to Norway, Alaska, and most of the “Mystery” trips. She also spent many summers in Medora. Dorothy loved to bake and was known for her donuts and apple bars. She enjoyed “Card Parties” and was a founding member of her area “Homemakers” group.

Dorothy is survived by her children, David, Gary, Marilee (Jerry) Haukos, and Neil (Laura); daughter-in-law, Marsha Tangen; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Selmer; son, Lowell; brother, Dick Erickson; sisters, Betty Jagol, and Carol Olson; and two infant brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hawley Lutheran Church, Reach, or the charity of your choice.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, from 10-11 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 at Hawley Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN. A livestream of the service will be available here on Dorothy’s page.

Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery.
