Duane Lester “Windy” Lindblad

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our patriarch. Duane Lester “Windy” Lindblad, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away peacefully in his home on January 29, 2023, after a complicated battle with Melanoma and prostate cancer. He led an enthusiastic 84 years of compassion, generosity, wisdom and most importantly laughter.

Windy was born on February 28, 1938, in Fargo and was raised and educated in West Fargo ND. As a young adult, he worked in a few jobs all revolving around cars and racing and even earned the title of rookie of the year 1959 at the F-M Speedway and enjoyed racing his entire life especially sprint cars. He buckled down after marrying Elaine Kay Rogne in August of 1960 and started driving truck. That turned into a lifelong career in trucking as owner of Valley Trucking Inc. and many different affiliations as a truck broker. He loved his years on his hobby farm surrounded by horses and countless strays and pets.  Down time was also spent hunting and fishing with friends and family. He especially loved his trips to the Badlands. Retirement was spent at his lake home where he took great pride in his lawn, feeding the birds and making his family laugh.

He will be missed by his wife Elaine Kay; son, Michael (Laura) Lindblad; daughter Kristin (John) Osborne; grandchildren, Bradley (Jacey) Lindblad, Amanda Lindblad, Emma (Corey) Mattson, and Jack Osborne; great grandchildren, Henrik, Clara, and Noah Lindblad; brother, Ronald Lindblad; brothers-in-law, Robert (Carmen) Rogne and Eric (Sara) Rogne; and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ethelyn Lindblad; brother, James Lindblad; sister-in-law, Vonnie Lindblad; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Osborne.

Visitation with the family is scheduled for Friday, February 3, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00P.M. with a short prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN. Visitation will continue from noon to 1:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Augustana Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, MN, where he was baptized into the life of Christ as a baby.
