Emma J. Olson

Emma J. Olson, age 84, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.Emma Janet Sandal was born on July 4, 1925 in Spring Prairie Township to Bendick and Martha Jensen Sandal. She grew up and attended country school in Spring Prairie Township. On August 24, 1943, she married Lester R. Jenson. Together she and Lester had one child, Janet. Lester died on December 5, 1944, as a result of World War II. In 1947, Emma married Foster T. Simmons. Together they had two children, Ted and Les. On November 10, 1961, Emma married Harold M. Olson. They remained married until Harold's death in 1991. Emma was a lifetime resident of Clay County and a member of the VFW Woman's Auxiliary. Previous to her decline in health, Emma was a long time member of the Glyndon Lioness, the Sons of Norway Kringen Club, and Moorhead Garden Club. Emma enjoyed country music and played the guitar in her younger years. She also enjoyed gardening, needlework, baking, cooking and was an avid dancer. Emma learned to dance by standing on her father's feet while he danced. Emma was a resident of the Moorhead Manor for several months before entering Eventide. She will be missed dearly by those who knew her.She is survived one daughter, Janet Dale Peterson of Little Falls, MN; two sons, Ted Simmons of Glyndon, MN and Les Sandy Simmons of Glyndon, MN; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle Johnson and Julia Sandal and seven brothers, Johnny, Ole, Henry Sr., Albert, Benny, Louie and Donald Sandal.
