Freeland Henry Pletcher

Freeland Henry Pletcher, 95, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022, at the V.A. Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Freeland was born on January 29, 1927, to Dale and Nan (Slyter) Pletcher, in Barnesville, MN. He grew up on the family farm south of Barnesville and attended Barnesville schools until the 10^th grade. He joined the United States Navy where he served his country during World War II. He served on the Aircraft Carrier the U.S.S. Wasp in the South Pacific up until the end of the war. After he returned from the war, he farmed with his father on the family farm for three years.

Freeland met Lorraine Wagner at a barn dance, and soon after they were united in marriage on June 4, 1950, in Barnesville. They moved to Moorhead, MN, where Freeland lived the rest of his life. He began manufacturing and selling bulldozer blades for Dakota Sales Agency Incorporated in Fargo, ND. He worked his way up the ladder to part owner and worked for Dakota Sales for 28 years. After his retirement, he worked for Corwin delivering vehicles all over the country.

Freeland was a member of the Eagles for 27 years; he was a lifelong member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion, and was an active member of the 1^st Congregational Church in Fargo. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was a very social individual and made friends everywhere he went. Above all, he loved his family. He was an active family man and enjoyed attending all of his families’ events.

Freeland is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Lorraine; children, Daniel (Annette) Pletcher, Kim (Marvin) Kratzke, and Ruth (Jamison) Rice; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Glen, Dean, and Dale Pletcher; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Bjornstad; parents, Dale and Nan; and siblings, Faye Johnson, Nell Janda, and Jack Pletcher.

Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Final resting place will be at Rosemound Cemetery, Barnesville, MN, on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 2:00 P.M.
