Hans C. Dahl

Dahl, Hans Charles passed away November 27, 2016. Hans was born May 14, 1944 in St. Paul, MN and was adopted by Dr. L.M. Dahl and Barbara James Dahl of Moorhead. Hans attended Moorhead Public Schools. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 – 1967 as a dental technician stationed at Great Lakes, IL. 1969 – he graduated from Moorhead State College. March 1970 – Hans married Mary Rae Pfeifer, daughter of Raymond F. Pfeifer and Dolores Wosick Pfeifer of Moorhead. 1970 – Hans was granted Fulbright Fellowship and he and Mary went to Germany to study. 1972 – Hans received an MA degree from the University of Minnesota. 1975 – Hans accepted a teaching job at Glenbrook South High School, in Glenview, IL, where he taught English and Humanities until June 2001. 2001 – 2010 Hans taught at William Rainey Harper College in Palantine, IL. In 2005 Hans went to China for one year and taught English and American Culture at Xian University in Xian, China. Hans was a devoted teacher; the welfare of his students was always in his thoughts. He left no stone unturned in his mission to provide knowledge, thinking and reasoning skills for the young people about to go out into the world. Many of his students stayed in contact with him long after they left school. Hans shared his wife’s interest in opera, classical music and history. They traveled extensively in the world: North America, South America; Egypt, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana in Africa; India, China; most countries in Western Europe and a few in Eastern Europe.

The Dahls bought their first house in Deerfield, IL in 1978 which is where they lived until 2012, when they moved back to Moorhead. The Dahls had no children. Hans is survived by his sister, Janice William Leverett; and first cousins: Harold and Randy Hoghaug; and Hans and Eric Borstad.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 10, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
