Harold R. Hoganson of Moorhead, MN died peacefully while surrounded by family on Thursday, April 7, 2011. He was born September 2, 1929 in Downer, MN, to Harry and Malinda Lemke Hoganson. He became a child of God through infant baptism on September 8th, 1929 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville, MN by Pastor H.R. Romness. His sponsors were Mrs. Anna Carr and George Carr. He publicly reaffirmed his faith commitment to Jesus Christ on October 31, 1943 at the Norwegian Lutheran Church, St. Olaf Congregation in Faith, Minnesota by Pastor A.O.B. Moledrem. He grew up in various locations in west-central Minnesota and attended school in Clay and Norman Counties.On April 15, 1951, he married Alice Christine Trebesch in Mahnomen, MN. Together they made their home and raised their family in Moorhead. He was a loyal and adoring husband to Alice for over 58 years until her death in 2009. Harold, during his teenage years, was employed as a farmer from 1943-1947. He later worked at the Faith Flour Mill from 1947-1950. He worked as a salesman from 1950 to 1951 for Bahr's Barber and Beauty Supply. Harold proudly served in the United States Army from September 1951 to August 1953 during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharge, he returned to Bahr's once again in sales, and later, went to work for Cardinal Beauty Supply until 1975. Harold's love for agriculture and sales continued while working as an independent contractor for Na-Churs Plant Food Company from 1975 until his death. Additionally, Harold and his son established a lawn care business, The Turf of the Town, in 1984 where Harold enjoyed assisting hundreds of customers and their appreciation for beautiful yards.Harold was a devoted Christian and a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN for 59 years; he served in various leadership positions and was often found tenderly caring for the outside facilities. Harold's work and play were one in the same. He had many hobbies during his life that included photography, racing go-carts, repairing small engines and appliances, fishing, hunting and traveling south in the winter to visit family and friends. He loved to tell stories of his luck at the casinos. Harold was known for his steadfast work ethic and he worked tirelessly to nurture his immaculate lawn and gardens. Others often consulted Harold because of his self-taught skills in plumbing, construction, electronics and auto mechanics. Relationships were important to Harold and he frequently arranged get-togethers with family and friends. He enjoyed making special foods with recipes that will be passed down throughout the generations. Harold was a devoted grandfather and he was often found attending his grandchildren's activities or sharing his interests and hobbies with them. He taught his children and grandchildren the importance of taking care of one's possessions. Harold is survived by his children, Valerie Mike Cossette, Sabin, MN, Rick Pat Hoganson, Moorhead, MN, Peggy Robert Sorensen, Mankato, MN, Stuart Shannon Hoganson, Moorhead, MN, and son-in-law Lynn Brenden, Rothsay, MN. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren, Malinda and Kristie Cossette, Katie and Adam Hoganson, Jay Amy and Carl Sorensen, Hailey, Courtney, and Noah Brenden, and Preston, Ethan, and Liam Hoganson; step-grandchildren Danielle Rick Morris and family, and Jennifer Stroup and family; sisters Eleanor Wayburn Downs, and Gloria Bob Wagner; sisters-in-law Judy Hoganson, Alma Christensen, and Sally Kadrie Sorensen.He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, daughter, Kelly Brenden, parents, Harry and Malinda Hoganson, father and mother-in-law Reinhold and Lillian Trebesch; brothers, Lyle and Larry Hoganson, sister, June Schafbuch, and brother-in-law, Clem Kadrie.
