James W. Grindberg

James W. Grindberg, 87, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. James was born November 8, 1935, in Fargo, ND, to Clarence and Elizabeth (Lutes) Grindberg. He grew up in Mapleton, ND, where he graduated from high school. He then continued his education at Dakota Business College in Fargo. After graduating from college, Jim worked at various businesses as well as managing Sunset Lanes and Steakhouse in Moorhead. On May 4, 1957, James married Shirley Linke in Fargo, ND. Together they made their home in Mapleton for a few years before settling in Moorhead. Over the years, James worked in sales at Minn-Ota Carbonic in Moorhead, eventually owning and operating the business in Fargo until retirement.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, golfing, water and downhill skiing, woodworking and spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James will be greatly missed.

James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley; children, William (Peggy) Grindberg and Carrie Sustad; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, George (Carol) Grindberg; and sister, Frances Yokom.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son-in-law, Arden Sustad.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 24, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 10:00 a.m., at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.

Interment will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
