James "Jim" W. Duncan Jr.

James W. Duncan Jr. (84) peacefully passed away Saturday, September 16th at Eventide in Moorhead with family members present.

James "Jim" was born in Moorhead to Dr. James W. and Beatrice Duncan. Preceded in death by both sisters: Joan (Butch) Cleveland and Barbara (Floyd) Erickson. Jim will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Charlene, and family. Jim and Charlene loved spending time at their lake home on Little Cormorant Lake where they purchased a cabin in 1982 and eventually built their permanent residence in 2002.  

Jim played basketball and football in high school with his future wife “Chuckie” cheering him on. Jim had a passion for fast cars, boats, and snowmobiles. He had to have the fastest boat on Lake Melissa where he spent his time as a young man running the gas station in Shoreham. Jim was a family man providing the family with education, travel, and recreational vehicles. Jim worked for the city of Moorhead for many years until his retirement in 1995.

Jim is survived by his wife, Charlene, their sons, Tim (Jane) of Glyndon, Jim (Linda) of Detroit Lakes, and David (Jessica) of Cardiff, CA. Jim is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Mac, Nick, Jordan, Tanner (Emma), Garret (Vanessa), Corbin (Sarah), Makenna, Victoria, and Alistair, and 3 great-grandchildren, Cecelia, Dolly, and Davey.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 2:00 PM with a visitation one hour before the service at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.  A livestream of the service will be available here on Jim's page.
