James Mark Iverson

July 9, 1957 — April 20, 2017

James ‘Jim’ Iverson, 59, of Moorhead, MN, passed away in his home on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Jim was born on July 9, 1957, to George and Norma Jean Bishop Iverson in Fergus Falls, MN. Jim graduated from Campbell Tintah High School in 1975. He attended North Dakota State School of Science and graduated with an Associates Degree in real estate and insurance.

Jim met Lynn Anderson when he was 16 and she was 15 years old at The Canteen in Breckenridge and he was smitten. They were married on August 13, 1977 in Wahpeton, ND and this August would have marked their 40th wedding anniversary.

Jim joined Custom Marketing Company in 1985 as a general manager and became President of the company in 1995, staying on until 2011. With the position, Jim developed sales in 36 states, 5 countries, and helped over 20, 000 customers.

Jim battled Stage Four colon cancer for almost seven years, yet he was fortunate to enjoy relative good health. He celebrated holidays and had the chance to travel to Italy, Mexico, and Arizona. When his health declined, he was strength and dignity personified. Even at the end of his life, he remained an optimist and kept making plans.

He was a man of many talents and could cook, build, or fix anything he set his mind to. His mind was sharp, and he enjoyed talking politics or finance wherever he found a willing listener. Hard work was all he knew, and most of his hobbies – cooking, investing, farming – were work by another name.

He was a loving father and took pride in his sons’ achievements. Although his chief pleasure was his family, he also enjoyed the countryside, maple syrup, and cherries. He enjoyed sitting around the fire with his family and friends in the summer, drinking wine, and listening to music until late in the night.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lynn Anderson Iverson; sons, Alan Louise Iverson, and Tyler Iverson; brother, Thayne Rose Iverson; sister, Sharon James Bryn Iverson; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Norma Jean.

A memorial gathering will take place on Monday, April 24, from 5:00PM-7:00PM with a time for sharing at 6:00PM at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN.

Jim’s family would like to thank his oncologist, Dr. Anu Gaba, as well as the other staff at Roger Marris Cancer Center, for their exemplary care and treatment of Jim since his diagnosis in 2010. They would also like to thank Hospice of the Red River Valley for their compassion and dedication over the past two months. Memorials may be made out to the Hospice of the Red River Valley.
