IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet
Banish
February 18, 1943 – December 7, 2025
Janet (Kalk) Banish, 82, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Essentia Health Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Janet was born on February 18, 1943, to Daniel and Rose (Gunville) Kalk, in Dunseith, ND. She grew up in Dunseith where she graduated from Dunseith High School. She met Joseph “Jim” Banish in 1963, and they were united in marriage on July 30, 1966, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dunseith, ND. They moved to Milnor, ND, where Janet spent most of her time as a homemaker until 1992 when she became a Certified Nursing Assistant. Janet and Jim moved to the Fargo area in 1997 where she continued to practice as a CNA. She retired in 2008 after Jim’s kidney cancer diagnosis. She opened an at home daycare until 2012 when she became fully retired. Jim passed away on June 18, 2018, and she has remained in West Fargo ever since.
Janet was considered a Danny O’Donnell superfan. After a few strings were pulled, she was allowed to watch him rehearse when he performed in Fargo. She loved to watch the Chicago Cubs and the NDSU Bison. She enjoyed watching cowboy movies on the Grit channel every day without fail and watching the rabbits and chipmunks run around her yard. Her biggest joy in life was her three sons.
Janet is survived by her sons, James Banish, Brian Banish, and Daren Banish; sisters, Marlene Kopp and Natalie Jahner; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim Banish; parents, Daniel and Rose; and her siblings, Rodney, Vincent, Marvin, Julian, Lorraine, Louella, and Kathy.
Funeral service will take place at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 12, 2025, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2711 7th St. E., West Fargo, ND, 58078. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service.
