Janet A. Burns

Janet Adeline (Meyer) Burns, 90, of Hawley, MN, passed away on June 16, 2025, at Eventide in Moorhead, MN. Janet was born to John and Adeline Meyer on the family farm near Hitterdal, MN. After graduating from Hitterdal High School, she lived in Southern California and Saint Paul, MN, while working for Western Airlines. She later worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Fargo.

Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and member of the Hawley community. She will fondly be remembered for serving on local committees, participating in many clubs, and being a faithful member of the Hawley Lutheran Church.

A ruthless game player, Janet quickly dealt a hand of cards, joined friends for a round of Bunco, and got quarters out of her purse for a little friendly gambling. Even as her health faltered, Janet played cards and won until the end.

Janet's love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life, a love that was sincerely reciprocated by all who knew her.

Janet is survived by her children, Mark (Elizabeth) Burns of Hawley, Amy Biller of Moorhead, Susan (Scott) Busker of Detroit Lakes, eight grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, son Patrick, siblings Aliene Malakowsky, Joan Grefsrud, Janine Nelson, Juanita Leno, John Meyer Jr., Nathan Meyer, and many other extended family members and dear friends.

In remembrance of Janet’s life, the family asks that memorials be sent to the Patrick & Donald Burns Scholarship Fund or Hawley Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be Monday, June 23, 2025, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at Hawley Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN. Interment will be at Hawley Cemetery.
