Janet Lea (Burnside) Yarbrough was born to Frankie and Evey Burnside on July 26, 1941 on a farm near Hitterdal, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and attended school in Hitterdal before graduating in 1959. In 1962, Janet married Ed Yarbrough at Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal.
Janet and Ed spent most of their years together living on the same family farm where she was born where they managed the farming operation while both having other full-time jobs. She attended Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN and graduated with a BS in Home Economics. After graduation, Janet went on to teach Home Economics at the Ulen-Hitterdal High School for ten years. Eventually she started working for the Internal Revenue Service where she worked for many years before retiring in 2000.
After selling their home on the farm, Janet and Ed moved into a house in Hawley, MN. Over the years, she stayed active in social activities in the Hitterdal and Hawley communities. Janet was known as being sharp-witted and having a good sense of humor. She was a very good cook, enjoyed country western music, and in later years watched a lot of Minnesota Twins baseball.
Janet was most proud of being a mother and a grandmother. She also really enjoyed being a teacher.
Janet is survived by her son, Travis (LaShawn) Yarbrough; and grandchildren, Erica Yarbrough, Cameron Yarbrough, and Connor Yarbrough.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; a son, Troy Yarbrough; parents; and a sister, Ruth (Jim) Aas.
Memorials are preferred to Salem Lutheran Church.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
