Janice D. Burnside, age 90 of Moorhead, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 24, 2026. 

Janice was born the second of four daughters on March 26, 1936, in Fingal, ND to Ellen (Gjesvold) and Julius Matzek. The family moved to Fargo, ND where she graduated from Fargo High School in 1954. She worked as a bookkeeper. She married Lem R. Burnside on June 15, 1957, at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND and they made their home in Dilworth, MN raising two children. 

Janice enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing cards, reading books, and spoiling her grand kids and great grand kids. 

For several years she was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a regular election poll volunteer, and was actively involved with Dilworth Lutheran Church. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lem Burnside, and sisters Levetta (Vernon) Possehl, and Marilyn (Charles) Scherzer. 

She is survived by her partner, Donald Estenson, Moorhead, MN; one daughter, Renee (Steven) Wimmergren, Prior Lake, MN; one son Scott (Deirdre) Burnside Shakopee, MN; one sister, Judy (Dale) Hovde, Lake Park, MN; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 2 p.m. with a visitation one hour before the service at Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, MN.

Burial will be in Moorhead Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
