Jean Elaine (Anderson) Braseth, 90, of Hawley, MN, passed away on February 28, 2026, at Ecumen Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Jean was born on July 26, 1935, to Albert and Etta (Hoggarth) Anderson in Hawley, MN. She grew up in Hawley where she attended and graduated from Hawley High School. She continued living and working in Hawley when she was united in marriage to Marvin Nelson on February 26, 1955. After his passing, Jean met Earl Braseth, they were united in marriage on October 5, 1963. They moved to Earl’s home farm in rural Lake Park near Cormorant Township. She took care of her children, enjoyed tending to her garden, and helping out on the farm. She took care of Earl until his passing in August of 2013. She moved back to Hawley where she has remained ever since.
Jean was an active member at Park Lutheran Church with the WELCA group. She loved spending time on the lake. She enjoyed traveling back and forth to Duluth, making trips to the Casino’s nearby, and visiting with friends over coffee. She loved to meet new people, hear their stories, and was proclaimed by her family as a famous restaurant critic.
Jean is survived by her children, Kevin (Annette) Braseth, Sheila (Steve) Schmidt, Eric (Kim) Braseth, and Gordon (Anne) Braseth; grandchildren, Philip (Claire), Dawn, David (Becky), Tylor (Robert), Sabrina (Jesse), Jacob (Becky), Mikkel, Josie, Derek (Dani), Brooke (Clint), Jenna, Payton, and Brody; great-grandchildren, Shyne, Briar, Vivian, Aurora, Asher, Lacey, Orion, Cloud, Luna, Norman, Paisley, Adley, Jack, Natalie, Charlea, and Beric; sister, Mary Ann (Richard) Pierce; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Marvin Nelson and Earl Braseth; daughter, Lori Knish; grandson, Thomas Braseth; granddaughter, Rosa Schmidt; and great-granddaughter, Annaliese Knish.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., followed by the prayer service at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN. Visitation will continue from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 6, 2026, at Rollag Lutheran Church, Rollag, MN. Final resting place will be at Park Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Hawley, MN, following the services at the church.
