Jean Fisher

January 30, 1923 — April 14, 2019

Jean Fisher passed away April 14, 2019 at her home, in the company of family and friends.

Alice Jean Ford was born January 30, 1923 to Maxwell Amos Ford and Isabella Campbell (Brown) Ford near Miami, Manitoba. She grew up on a farm and attended school in Miami. She later graduated from Success Business College in Winnipeg.

Jean proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. She was stationed near Toronto and enjoyed making new friends and exploring the area.

Jean returned to Winnipeg and worked for Searle Grain Company. While touring the United States on a vacation, she met Robert Fisher. Bob visited Jean and her family frequently in Winnipeg.

They married August 17, 1957 in Winnipeg. Jean emigrated to Fargo, ND and made her home here. She worked for the North Dakota Electrical Contractors Association until the birth of her daughter Carole in 1964.

The family traveled almost every summer, towing their camper to northern Manitoba, the Teton mountains, the Great Lakes, and many other destinations. Jean and Bob were avid rock hounds who loved to explore abandoned mines.

Bob passed away in 2004. Jean continued to live in the home they had purchased in 1966, until her death. She treasured her perennial gardens, which included many rose bushes, and enjoyed the company of dogs JD, Smokey, Shadow, and Mickey through the years. She was fortunate to have wonderful neighbors and resisted any suggestion that she move to a facility with “a bunch of old people”.

Jean eagerly participated in family events and always insisted upon bringing several pies. She was happy and proud to watch her grandson Callan grow through the years, and she attended many band concerts.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Fisher, her parents, her brother Arthur Ford, and her sister Margaret Ford. She is survived by her daughter Carole Wright of Fargo, grandson Callan Wright of Fargo, by Marvin Wright whom she always considered her son in law. Also survived by her brother Claire (Diane) Ford of Winnipeg and numerous nieces and nephews and their families, and her dog, Mickey.

Sincere love and thanks to dear friend Brett Person, who cared for Jean and kept her company in her home during her last months.
