Jerome “Jerry” L. Schroeder, 84, of Dilworth, MN, passed away August 23, 2022, at River Pointe Assisted Living in Moorhead, MN.
Jerry was born April 3, 1938 to Leroy Sr. and Harleth (Hanson) Schroeder. He graduated from Dilworth High School in 1956, then joined the Army and worked as a medic at Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii. After his honorable discharge, Jerry worked for a short time on the railroad in Dilworth, then drove truck for Kost Brothers, and later worked for Northern States Power for 37 years.
In 1960 Jerry married Janet Anderson, whom he loved very much. They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Mexico for vacations. When Janet and Jerry divorced he met Nancy Kapaun and they lived together on Pelican Lake until she died on October 19, 2012. Nancy and Jerry traveled many places including Hawaii, Mexico, Germany, Norway, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Poland and many more.
Jerry rode with the Fargo Elks motor patrol for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and Eagles Club in Detroit Lakes and a member of the Fargo Elks and Moorhead American Legion and VFW. Jerry enjoyed playing sports, especially football, in his younger years and he loved hunting and fishing. He never forgot an elk hunting trip in Montana when he was buried in a snow slide for six hours. The very next year he shot his elk in Colorado with his sons, Don and Dave.
Jerry is survived by his two sons, David (Mary) and Donald; six grandchildren, and siblings, Richard Schroeder, Eugene Schroeder, Gordon Schroeder and Betty Lundon. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leroy and granddaughter, Tiffany.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation for one hour before the service, at Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, MN. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon, MN.
