Joyce (Herrlinger) Brummond, 98, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Bethany on University, Fargo, ND.

Joyce was born on June 22, 1927, to Max and Ella (Hojem) Herrlinger in the Slayton, MN hospital. She grew up on the family farm near Dovray Township in Minnesota, attending the nearby one room schoolhouse before graduating from Westbrook High School in 1944. She studied music, German, and English at Waldorf Junior College in Forest City, Iowa and graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD in 1948. She taught high school English and music in Cottonwood, MN and Waldorf, MN until she met Robert J. Brummond who was teaching and coaching in nearby Pemberton, MN. They were married on September 29, 1951, sharing almost 68 years as loving partners in crime.

Joyce continued her career as a substitute teacher while raising son Donald and daughter Janice in Fargo. She began teaching elementary music in the Fargo Public Schools System in1972, retiring from Lincoln Elementary in 1991. She enjoyed memorable adventures with Robert including sabbatical years in Austin, TX, Seattle, WA, and Hamar, Norway. She was active in church and community groups including teaching Sunday School and directing choirs at the First Presbyterian churches in Moorhead and Fargo, the history section of the Fine Arts Club of Fargo, Concordia College Women’s League, knitting club and others. Joyce enjoyed baking, sewing, baseball, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and reading until her eyesight began to fail. She was known for her dry sense of humor, sharing witty jokes and puns until her last hours.

Joyce will be deeply missed by her daughter, Janice Brummond; sister, Greta (Robert) Motzko; sisters-in-law, Helen Brummond and Mary Herrlinger; twenty nieces and nephews and their families; and many cherished friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. followed by an informal memorial service on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
