Judien Berg, 90, of Hawley, MN, formerly of Syre, MN, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in Hawley Senior Living, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Judien Berg was born on February 5, 1923 in Ulen, MN to John and Julia Skiem Berg. He grew up in the Ulen and Syre area where he attended country school. On February 21, 1943, Judien married Henrietta Johnson. In November 1943 Judien went to serve in the United States Army in the South Pacific during WWII. After his service, they lived in Minneapolis before moving back to Syre, where he farmed until 1954. Judien and Henrietta then moved to Minneapolis and Annandale, MN where they lived for over 30 years. Henrietta died in 2004. In 2006 Judien moved to Hawley Senior Living. He enjoyed working on his farm and woodworking, camping and being at the lake.
Judien is survived by his son, John Cathy Berg, Frazee, MN; daughter, JoAnn Lawrence Avery, Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Gladys Bentley, Hawley, MN; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Elmer, Raymond, Harvey, Odin and Evelyn.
