Judith Kay (Brandt) Swangler was born on August 6, 1943, in Comstock, MN, to Walter and Ida (Ernst) Brandt.

She was married to Orville “Buzz” Dow from 1958 – 1968, William Smith from 1972 – 1976, and later to Joseph Swangler from 1979 until his death, January 30, 2016. They lived in Staples, MN, and moved to Dilworth, MN, in 1989 where she resided until April 2025.

Judy then moved to Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo. She enjoyed winters in Arizona and summers at their place on Ottertail Lake. She loved her dogs, cats, golfing, bowling and playing cards.

She is survived by her children, Sandra (Larry) Cegla of Moorhead, MN, Michael (Lisa) Dow of Fargo, ND, Susan (Mike) Hansen of Rothsay, MN, Corrine (Troy) Wittenburg of Fargo, ND, Thomas Dow of Campbell, MN, and William Smith Jr., of Fargo, ND; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, Gordon and Flo Brandt, and Ginny Brandt; as well as many nieces and nephews, and her group of cards girls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Swangler, her parents, Walt and Ida Brandt, and brothers, Jerry Brandt and Wally Brandt.

Visitation will be Friday, December 5, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM, in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
