Kathy J. Meland of Fargo, ND passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023, in her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Katherine Jo Novacek was born in Fargo, ND on December 22, 1953, to Arthur and Lois Novacek. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.
As a child, Kathy spent many quality days helping and learning from her grandparents, and after graduation from Moorhead Senior High, she stayed and worked in the community.
Kathy was married to Steven Meland in 1973 which brought much joy to her life. They made their home in south Fargo and together raised two children, Melissa, and Brian. As a mother, Kathy encouraged and supported her children in their education, relationships, and careers. Her children, like her husband, brought her happiness during her life. She loved people and cared deeply for her family and others over the years and made sure to carry on strong traditions and values she learned from her parents.
Each of Kathy’s siblings, Steve, Jerry, Keith, Kenny, and Lisa have shared their life’s joys. Her children helped her through all the trials and tribulations she faced, with their spouses, Terrill, and Marit by their side for support. During the past years, Kathy’s siblings and friends reached out many times during the most trying times of her illness. One of the songs comforting Kathy was, “God and My Girlfriends” by Reba McEntire.
Caregiving and serving others in her career was a calling Kathy took seriously. At the Cooperative Living Center Kathy welcomed new residents and included them with long-term residents in many activities, including recognition of Veteran’s at Christmas, which made everyone feel special. Her skills in serving the senior living site brought good memories for Kathy and the residents.
Left to mourn Kathy are her husband, Steve; children, Melissa (Terrill) Blair, and Brian (Marit) Meland; siblings, Steve (Mary) Novacek, Jerry (Lois) Novacek, Keith Novacek, Ken (Marcy) Novacek, and Lisa Wagner.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Tracey Novacek.
