Kate Sams

Kathleen M. Sams, 70, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Eventide on 8th in Moorhead. Kate was born March 21, 1952, in Fargo, ND, to Daniel and Ruth (Miller) Evert. She grew up in Sabin, MN, where she attended elementary school. Kate later attended Moorhead High School where she excelled in sports, especially track. After graduating in 1970, Kate continued her education at Minnesota State University Moorhead and received her degree in Physical Education. She taught in the area before moving to Texas in the late 1970’s. On May 15, 1983, Kate married Randal Sams. Together they made their home in Garland, TX. Kate later moved back to Moorhead in 2000. She enjoyed working at Moorhead Public School, Moorhead DMV and later AmeriPride before retiring. In her free time, she also enjoyed playing scrabble, bingo, bunko and painting. Most of all, however, she loved her time with family, especially her grandchildren. Shewill be dearly missed.

Kate is survived by her daughter, Katrina (Tyler) Andel; grandchildren, Addison, Riley and Brody; sister, Mary Wiegand; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Daniel Evert.

Visitation will be Monday, March 20, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m., at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.

Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Sabin, MN.
