Kelly
Jones - Peterson
Jun 3, 1964 — Oct 13, 2026
On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Kelly Lynn Jones-Peterson drew her final breath on earth, awakening the next moment in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born in Moorhead, Minnesota, on June 3, 1964, to Diane and Donald Jones, Kelly was raised on her family’s ancestral farm. Her life was a celebration of each season: planting in spring, sunshine and lake time in summer, harvest in autumn, and outdoor play in winter.
Indeed, “play” was a central component of Kelly’s multifaceted ethos. While she was a tremendously hard worker—after all, one doesn’t grow up on a farm without developing a deeply entrenched work ethic and sense of responsibility—the sheer fun she brought into the lives of those around her would be impossible to quantify.
Lively, energetic, and dynamic, Kelly reveled in all things outdoors. No matter how cold it might be (and it could be absurdly cold during winter in the Red River Valley of the North!), she simply dressed in layers then dragged friends and family out to play in the snow. She was often the very first person in the lake come springtime—as early as April some years—and she made sure everyone else spent plenty of time in the water all summer long at the property on Big Floyd Lake, where her grandparents before her had built a cottage and where she later built her own dream home.
Beyond the fun, joy, and laughter Kelly brought to the world, hers was also a life of selfless service to others. She worked for many years as a cardiac intensive care RN at St. Luke’s, then at MeritCare in Fargo. She volunteered her time and considerable energy to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fargo-Moorhead as well as a trained counselor for Fargo’s Rape and Abuse Crisis Center. She served with the Floyd Shores Association. She spoke up as a powerful voice for the environment, domestic animals, wildlife, children, victims of sexual violence, and the elderly. She showed up for everyone she cared about in countless immeasurable ways.
Above all, however, Kelly was a woman of profound and abiding faith who believed God’s word, keeping it ever at the forefront of her life. Many are the people with whom she shared the wondrous news of salvation through Christ. Innumerable are the tangible and intangible ways she supported mission work throughout her own community and across the world. Incalculable is the difference she made to so many during her time on earth. Indescribable is the jubilation and exultation surely taking place upon her arrival in Heaven.
Preceded in death by her father, Donald Jones; her grandparents, Kenneth and Clara Jones; and her grandparents, Gordon and Mildred Juve; Kelly is survived by her soul-mate and loving husband, Greg Peterson; her mother, Diane Juve Jones Rasmussen; her stepfather, Dalan Rasmussen; her son, Andrew (Anya) Jones; her grandchildren, Aleksei, Aven, Aeson, and Alesya Jones; her brother, John (Laura) Jones; her nieces and nephew; great-nieces and great-nephews; and a veritable legion of friends, all of whom cherish her memory, are committed to carrying on her legacy of laughter and love for the Lord, and gladly anticipate being reunited with her in God's own time.
