Kevin Arthur Christoffers, 22, died Thursday, August 22, 2024, in his parents’ home in Moorhead, MN.
Kevin was born on November 30, 2001, at Abbot Northwestern in Minneapolis, MN, to Michael and Collette (Tjon) Christoffers. Kevin was baptized on December 9, 2001, in Minneapolis, and confirmed in his faith on May 7, 2017, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.
Living his entire life in Moorhead, Kevin attended Reinertson Elementary, Horizon Middle School, and Moorhead High School, graduating in May of 2020. In elementary school, Kevin learned Tae Kwon Do and played soccer. He soon discovered a love of music, playing piano and then cello in the Moorhead High School Orchestra. As of late, Kevin was attending NDSU with a major in Computer Engineering and completing an internship with John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group.
Family and friends describe Kevin as smart, creative, quirky, caring, and loving. He especially had a soft spot for his grandmothers and would help them with anything they needed. He loved to play rummy and graciously cared for the pets in the house – enjoying the furry snuggles. Many family summer vacations were spent at New Horizon Resort on White Earth Lake, often earning Kevin the title of “fish whisperer”, when others were skunked and he wasn’t. A connoisseur of coffee, he would be glad to make you a cup of espresso through his meticulous formula and espresso machine. Kevin was a model for many of his sisters’ (Alyssa’s) art pieces. A large graphite drawing of his hand with planets suspended adorned Grandma’s wall in addition to cello sketches and portraits. Alyssa was also the subject of Kevin’s authentic critique of her artwork. Kevin enjoyed technology by building his own computer, server, and website, listening to audio books, and watching the History Channel, and playing online video games with siblings and friends.
As Kevin grew older, he began to struggle with bipolar disease, anxiety, and severe depression. Over the last 18 months, he fought the disease courageously, doing so much to move forward in his treatment and safety plan. While we mourn the loss of Kevin deeply now and in the future, we are confident that we will be reunited with him one day when we meet our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, face-to-face through the grace, peace, and mercy only Jesus can provide.
Kevin is survived by his parents, Michael and Collette; brother, Jacob; sisters, Emily, Bethany, and Alyssa; grandmothers, Janice Tjon and Marlyne Christoffers; uncles, Travis (Kristie) and Tim (Melissa) Tjon; aunts, Denelle (Paul) Dutton, Renae (Scott) Croy, and LuAnn (Mark) Glowacz; 17 cousins; and many extended family members. Kevin was preceded in death by grandpa Vern Christoffers, grandpa Bob Tjon, and grandpa Gar Sampson; and brother, Bobby Christoffers.
