Larry J. Jacobs

June 27, 1942 — March 25, 2023

Moorhead

Larry J. Jacobs, 80, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 surrounded by family, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Larry was born June 27, 1942, in Merricourt, ND, to Frank and Ann (Zahn) Jacobs. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Edgely & LaMoure, ND. Following school, Larry continued working on the farm until moving to Lakefield, MN, in search of a new career path. While in Lakefield, he met JoAnne Johnson. They were married December 10, 1966. Over the years, they made their home in Oregon, and later across the Midwest in Minnesota and Iowa before settling in Moorhead in 1975.

For those who knew Larry as Brother, Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend knew him as a lighthearted man who loved life, when his family and or friends were close by. The only thing that he loved more than life, was being with family and friends in a boat. Larry spent a good part of his life fishing at Swan Lake resort. This is where Larry was in his element. This is where he could fix what needed fixing, even if sometimes it didn't need any fixing. Where he could spend the nights sitting at a campfire next to his beloved wife JoAnne. This is where he watched his son fall in love with his wife. Where he could keep his daughter safe and beat her at pinochle. (Her nickname to this day is 40 by the way) This is where he taught his grandchildren how to fish and watched them turn from little boys into men. This is who Larry was at heart. These are the things Larry valued. He passed on so much to us all, the work ethic of a thousand oxen. How to be so strong, yet at the same time so soft. Larry made it effortless to talk to him about anything. It wouldn't be uncommon for you to have a conversation with Larry, where he would help you through a problem, make you laugh, maybe cry with you, and five minutes later pull a practical joke on you. He didn't take too much very seriously, only his family and friends. He had time for everyone, never too proud, or short tempered. He was the epitome of a good ole American boy, with a huge heart. A joyfully ironic end to such wholesome life, is he goes forever into the ground he spent so much time, care, and love into. We are all going to miss you.

Larry was also an avid Minnesota Twins, NDSU Bison Football, and through thick or thin a Minnesota Vikings Fan!!

Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, JoAnne; children, Missie (Wayne Haugen) Jacobs of Fargo, ND, Troy (Denise) Jacobs of West Fargo, ND, grandson, Brandon Jacobs of Fargo, ND great-grandchildren, Skye-Lynn, MaKiah and Sebastian; siblings, Delaine Schultz of Wishek, ND, Kenny (Cari) Jacobs of Fargo, ND,  Sherry Schiermeister of Bismarck, ND, Jeff (Rhonda) Jacobs of Maricopa, AZ, sister in-law Deb Jacobs of Bismarck, ND   and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Derrick Jacobs; parents, Frank and Ann Jacobs; siblings, Ruth (Earl) Maker, Ralph (Bev) Jacobs, Charles Jacobs, Connie Jacobs, Bonnie Jacobs; and brothers-in-law, LaValle Schultz and Glen Lere.
