Lee Monroe, 82, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022, at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN.
Lee was born on January 20, 1940, in Cut Bank, Montana to John and Gertrude (Blanchard) Monroe. He grew up in Cut Bank and went to school till graduation. He then moved to Fargo, ND, to go to school at Hanson Mechanical. He started working with Hegland Sign Co., Moorhead, MN. During this time, he married Nancy (Gee) Monroe in 1961. In 1962, Lee and Nancy moved to Casper, WY, to work at Casper Neon and later moved to Worland, WY, to work at Wyoming Electric Sign Co. until Nancy’s father passed away in 1965 so he could take over his in-law’s farm. He also owned his own business, Monroe’s Rural Welding and Sign, until his massive stroke in 1992.
Lee’s hobbies included fishing at Lake of the Woods in Canada, hunting, snowmobiling, building things, and riding his 4-wheeler around the farmstead. He was a Boy Scout leader for a few years. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagle’s Club, and President of the Perley Rod and Gun Club. Lee was a man of all trades.
Lee is survived by Nancy Monroe; children, Jerry and Peggy Monroe, both of Moorhead, MN, and Susan (Bryan) Kellet, Mayville, ND; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Coleen Monroe; brother, Tom Monroe, Anchorage, AK; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude; in-laws, George and Liela Gee; brother, Jim Monroe; sisters-in-law, Helen and Janny Monroe; and son, Joe Monroe.
Lee’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Eventide in Moorhead and Hospice of the Red River Valley. They would also like to especially thank Coleen Monroe, Lee’s daughter-in-law, and her children, Chris and Ian, for the care they gave Lee and Nancy’s son, Joe, during his illness. Last, but not least, Lee’s family would like to thank you all for the special thoughts, and stopping to see him when he was in the nursing home.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Oak Mound Cemetery, Kragnes Township, MN.
