Leigh G. Gilbertson, 85, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at HIA Heather's House, Fargo, ND. Leigh was born May 22, 1941, in Hawley, MN, to Gilbert and Laura (Gunderson) Gilbertson. He grew up in and attended school in Hawley where he enjoyed sports and excelled in both baseball and basketball. He was proud to be part of the first basketball team to make it to the state tournament from Hawley. After graduating from high school, Leigh served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 through 1966. After returning home, he continued his education and over the years worked as an accountant. Leigh enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with friends and playing golf with his buddies, which sometimes led to golf trips during the cold Minnesota winters. He will be remembered for being a great loving dad, brother, grandpa and the best cat owner to his beloved cat “sweetheart” Calli. 

Leigh is survived by his children, Karen (Scott) Blommer, Matt (Bijan) Etemad-Gilbertson, Missy Enslow, Tara Dittmer (Sheldon Monson) and Chase Gilbertson; grandchildren, Alivia Dittmer, Charlie Monson, Kayleigh Hein, Joseph Blommer, Andrew Blommer, Dayton Enslo, Tate Enslo, Jacob Dittmer and Ellie Etemad-Gilbertson; as well as siblings Dennis (Patsy), Donald (Liz).

He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Morgan Dittmer, Ilyssa Dittmer; parents, Gilbert and Laura; and siblings Willard, Larry Lorraine and Marlene.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Leigh will be laid to rest at Hawley Cemetery in Hawley, MN.
