Leigha Fern Ness

Leigha Fern Ness was born June 22, 2017, to Danielle Moen and Nicholas Ness at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN.  She came into the world fighting, at just 3 lbs. 4 oz and having difficulty breathing.  She was transferred to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND, where she was nurtured and cared for by a wonderful team of doctors and nurses for the first several weeks of her life.

Throughout her short, but extremely bright life, she overcame cancer, pneumonia, collapsed lung, lung surgery, and other difficult medical issues and obstacles, and always came back with a smile and thumbs up or a fist bump.  Leigha gained her wings June 9, 2023.

Leigha brought an infectious smile and vibe to every room that she entered. All her family, doctors and nurses knew her personality and were always ready for her spunk.  One could say that she was quite sassy at times, but also was the sweetest soul.  She was also one of the most compassionate kids you could meet, as she would share anything with anyone.  The Roger Maris Cancer Center crew, Sanford PICU/NICU and Sanford Pediatric Therapies Department were basically family to her, as she knew almost everyone and basically knew her routines as well as the staff did themselves.  She pretended to be a doctor most days, as it seems like that was much of her life routine.  Leigha will be missed dearly by all that had the pleasure of meeting her.

Leigha is survived by her parents, Danielle Moen and Nicholas Ness; siblings, Alorah Ness, Carrington Miller, Brixton Ness and Brooklyn Ness; grandparents, Corey and Carla Moen, Nicholas Allen Ness and Joelle Campbell; uncles, Logan Moen and Braden Moen; aunt, Amber Ness; uncles, Brian Ness and Kai Ness; great-grandfather, Don Christianson; great-grandparents, Don and Roxanna Ness; along with numerous great aunts and uncles and cousins.

Leigha was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Fern Mettling, Russel Mettling, Linda Christianson, Rick Moen, Denise Moen; great-uncle, Craig Mettling; and great-aunt, Cindy Straka.

Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 1:00 P.M., Monday, June 19, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
