Lila Joan Stubstad

Lila Joan Stubstad (Butenhoff), 85, of Fargo, ND, passed away in her home on Monday, February 22, 2021. Lila was born on October 21, 1935, to Theodore and Ethel (Poehls) Butenhoff in Baker, MN.

Lila grew up in Sabin, MN, and attended and graduated from Moorhead High School. She attended Moorhead State University for a brief time to become a teacher and left college to raise a family. She was united in marriage to Caroll Stubstad on December 29, 1957. They moved to North Carolina where Carroll was stationed in the service. Upon his discharge, they moved to Fargo until 1991. After their retirement, they moved to a cabin on Lake Lizzie where Lila enjoyed feeding hummingbirds and gardening. Lila and Carroll would spend time between their condo in Fargo and their lake cabin until Carrol’s passing on November 3, 2015.

Lila enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. No one ever left hungry after one of her home cooked meals. She was a friend of all animals, especially dogs and hummingbirds. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Lila is survived by her two sons, Marc (Jessie Terlecky) Stubstad and Matthew Stubstad; grandchildren, Caleb and Luke Stubstad; former daughter-in-law, Marcia Lindholm-Bettenhausen; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; son, Ross Stubstad; and siblings, Theodore Butenhoff, Viviette Haugtvedt, Alma Butenhoff, Roy Butenhoff, and Donald Butenhoff.

Visitation will be from noon to 1:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 1:00 P.M., on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. A livestream of the service will be available on her webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com where a guestbook and video tribute may also be found.
