Margaret I. “Margy” Peterson-Luthi

July 27, 1935 — January 27, 2023

Margaret Ivadelle Luthi (“Margy”) took the hand of Jesus on January 27 at Sanford Hospice House with her family by her side.

Margy was born on the family farm in Lake Park, July 27, 1935, to Oscar and Lena Handegard. She was the youngest of 12 children. She attended school in Lake Park, MN. She went on to get her GED which she was very proud of!

She started working several jobs as a young girl. One Saturday night, she attended a dance and met the love of her life! She met Milan Peterson and it was love at first sight. They were married in Lake Park on April 25, 1953. They had one daughter, Cheri. They moved to Eugene, OR for two years and returned to the family farm where they lived until 1976, when they moved to Dilworth, MN.   They had a very wonderful life and loved to spend time with family and friends. Milan died in 1999.  In 2002, Margy married her old high school sweetheart, Gordy Luthi. They loved to travel and spend winters in AZ. They moved in with Don and Cheri in 2005. Gordy died in 2019. In 2019, Margy’s sister and brother-in-law also moved in with Don and Cheri due to their health issues. That was the beginning of a 3.5 year “slumber party.”  Margy and Betty were inseparable, the “dynamic duo.” They shared companionship, love, support and fun! Betty died on July 27 which was a great loss.

She was very active in her church, church council, church groups, Bible study. She was active in “Calling and Caring.”  She was a Stephen’s Minister.

She was a fabulous Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She loved spending time with family and friends. She loved sewing for her family and friends. The joy of her life was Alyssa, Angela, Joe, Brien, Branxton, Keasha, and “Baby Bowlin”, (Angela and Brien) who will arrive in August 2023!   She had standing dates with her grandson, Braxton, she picked him up for guitar lessons every Wednesday.

In March 2022, she went on a trip of a lifetime. At the age of 87, she attended Angela and Brien’s wedding in Antigua. She had the most wonderful time with family and friends.

She looked forward to her weekly visits from her dear friends: Melody, Monica, Harriet and “special neighbors”, Dan and Mary Huber.

Margy’s faith, love for her family, and sense of humor will be sorely missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, (Milan Peterson – married 45 years) and (Gordy Luthi – married 17 years) and her 11 siblings: Ken, Idean, Dorrie, Beatrice, Gust, Ed, Raymond, Arnt, Grace, Orville and Betty.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Don Berland (Glyndon, MN); Grandchildren: Joe and Alyssa Braun (Fargo, ND), and Angela and Brien Bowlin (Charlotte, NC); and Great Grandchildren: Braxton and Keasha Braun, and Baby Bowlin. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clair and Ardy Peterson (Moorhead, MN); and sister-in-law, Joyce Peterson (Billings, MT); as well as many nieces and nephews.
