Marie Brendemuhl

Marie Brendemuhl, 91, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, MN.

Marie was born November 28, 1932, on the family farm in Horace, ND, one of 18 children of Edward and Elmira (Richard) Sauvageau. She attended school at St. Benedict’s in Wild Rice, ND. On June 18, 1952, she was united in marriage to Warren Brendemuhl at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN. They raised their children on the farm near Kragnes, MN. 

Marie was a dedicated and hard-working farm wife and mother who not only cared for her own children, but also for several nieces and nephews in their time of need. She was a meticulous housekeeper, and she enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, cooking and baking. Homemade bread, buns and potatoes were her specialty. Family members working in the fields could always look forward to her homecooked meals. Church was also an important aspect of Marie’s life. While living on the farm, she was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Georgetown, MN. In 1997, Warren and Marie moved off the farm and moved to Moorhead, MN, where she became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Marie proudly designed and decorated the home they built together in north Moorhead. 

Marie is survived by her daughters, Marlene (Mike) Henry, Suzan (Steve) Satran and Barbara (David) Balfour; her sons, Wayne (Diane) Brendemuhl, Curtis (Shelly) Brendemuhl and David (Sarah) Brendemuhl; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clifford Sauvageau, Tom (Linda) Sauvageau and Leo (Diana) Sauvageau, and sisters, Leonie Rheault, Elaine Staska, Pam Ulness, Patsy (James) Dreitzler, Kathleen McDonald, Donna (Duane) Schechinger and Janet (Del) Arneson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Marcel Sauvageau, Alpha Sauvageau, Guy Sauvageau, Denise Cossette, Edith Cossette, Della Bassett, Annabell Meagher; her son, Steven, and her husband, Warren. 

Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley or Oak Mound Cemetery Association.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., with a prayer service beginning at 5:00 P.M., at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue Monday, December 2, 2024, from noon to 1:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 1:00 P.M., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Mound Cemetery near Kragnes, MN.
