Marie Janice Maley

Marie Janice (Engstrom) Maley, 78, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Marie was born on May 29, 1945, to Verne and Lena (Ledoux) Engstrom, in Bottineau, ND. She grew up in Antler, ND, where she attended and graduated from Antler High School. She then attended Minot Business College where she graduated with her business degree. Around that time, she met Raymond Maley while he was working on road construction in the Antler, ND, area. They were united in marriage on October 15, 1966, and moved to Verona, ND, shortly after.

Marie began her career in accounts receivable at Lewis Truck Lines in Lisbon, ND. She soon became the proud mother to Roberta and Jason. In 1984, Marie and her family followed her career to Fargo, ND, continuing her work with Lewis. She lost a large part of her heart when Ray passed away in 1993. She was a strong woman who persevered for three more decades. She retired with Lewis in 2003 and moved to Kansas City to be closer to Roberta. She continued working in accounts receivable for BCD Travel. She retired in 2009 and moved back to Antler, ND, where she lived for nearly 6 years before moving to Fargo, ND, where she has lived ever since.

Marie loved gardening and took great pride in her flower bed. She enjoyed reading, playing Yahtzee, doing puzzles, knitting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed canning, cooking, and was known for how she prepared sweet potatoes and baked her homemade buns. Marie was an independent, hardworking woman and was stubborn to a fault. Most of all, she loved to have fun, loved to laugh, and loved to have a good conversation with her closest friends.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Roberta Nordland; son, Jason (Robyn) Maley; grandchildren, Aimee Nordland, Justin Nordland, Christian Nordland, Grace Hanneman, Jakob Maley, Madison Maley, Zoey Maley, and Zade Maley; great-grandchild, Coraline Carney; Kim and Mason Nordland; and many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray; parents, Vernie and Lena; siblings, Donna Eide and Warren Engstrom; and son in law, Doug Nordland.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., followed by the prayer service at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, August 11, 2023, at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Verona, ND, at a later date.
