Marie (Kurschinski) Scheel was born on July 6, 1927, to Walter and Ethel (Fogelberg) Kurschinski. She passed away on February 28, 2026, at SMP Health - St. Catherine North in Fargo, ND.

She grew up on the family homestead near Parshall, ND. After graduating from Parshall High School, she entered the Cadet Nurse Corps in Minot, ND and studied to become a registered nurse. She worked in various hospitals, from Pasadena, CA to Fargo, spending several years at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo.

Marie and Roy Scheel married on May 8, 1949, and they were married for 74 years. They had four children.

She was dedicated to the family, and made many special moments for the kids and grandkids. The church was also very important to her. She taught Sunday School and was active in circle.

In retirement, Marie and Roy travelled extensively. They spent many winters in Harlingen, TX, but also enjoyed cruises and trips with friends and family, visiting numerous states, the Caribbean and much of Europe, where Marie was able to pursue her interest in family history.

Marie appreciated the little things in life: the fall leaves in Maplewood State Park, crocuses in the springtime, and the greenjays in Texas. She was joyful, known for her ready smile and warm hugs. While she didn’t take herself too seriously, she set goals and took pride in her accomplishments, whether learning to play the guitar or writing award-winning family history books.

She is survived by children Sally (Dick) Jenkins, Sandra Hannahs, and Janet (Jeff) Wright-Mortenson; grandchildren Krista Black, Julie Mohl, Alyssa Shirek, Margaret Hannahs, Lillian Hannahs, Emily Wright; great-grandchildren Leo Mohl, Celia Mohl, Parker Shirek, Becca Shirek, Ryder Wright, and Raya Wright; and niece Theresa Thorson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Scheel, and by parents; sister Mae Thorson; son-in-law Chip Wright; grandsons Eric Wright and Robert Jenkins. She was followed in death by son Peter Scheel.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour before the service at Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.

Final resting place will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
