Mark Randall Hanft, 75, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Sanford on Broadway, Fargo, ND.
Mark was born on April 3, 1950, to Max and Faye (Gibbs) Hanft. He grew up in Nichols, IA, until the age of 5, when he moved to Seattle, WA, where he attended and graduated from Ingraham High School. He attended the University of Washington shortly before being united in marriage to Sandra Pecotte in 1971. That year, he also joined the United States Military, serving in the Navy where he was stationed with his family on a naval base in San Diego, CA.
After his honorable discharge from the military in 1976, Mark moved back to Seattle, WA, where he worked for various electrical companies, owned his own screen shop, and after nearly over 19 years he finished with Statewide Security Systems as a master electrician, retiring in 2015. In retirement, he moved to Moorhead, MN, and lived briefly in Fargo before returning to Moorhead where he has lived ever since.
Mark loved to play golf. He was a proficient ACBL duplicate bridge player, attaining the level of Ruby Life Master. He could almost always be found working on a Sudoku or crossword puzzle. He had a special love for all kinds of music and attended a variety of concerts, including for his grandkids and step-grandkids. He enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Seahawks and the Mariners. He was a quiet and simple man, yet he had a large group of friends whom he was very fond. Most of all, he was so very proud of his grandchildren and step-grandchildren and loved to attend all of their activities and performances.
Mark is survived by his son, Kane Hanft; significant other of 25 years, Naomi Paasch; grandson, Parker Hanft; great-grandchildren, Ashton Hanft, Aiden Hanft, and Adelynn Hanft; step-children, Alicia (Jeremy) Overbeck, John (Laura) Langdahl, and Nicole (Justin) Heide; step-grandchildren, Joseph (Serenity Harr) Overbeck, Emma Overbeck, Brooklyn Overbeck, Zachary Overbeck, Thomas Langdahl, Olivia Heide, Skyler Heide, and Roman Heide; sister, Teri Nelson; nephew, Scott (Cherry) Nelson; half-sister, Tricia (Todd) Hackett; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Max and Faye Hanft; and half-brother, Greg Hanft.
Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 26, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. A livestream of the service will be available here on Mark's webpage.
