Milford (Nick) T. Nickell, 95, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Colorado Springs, passed away on March 24, 2023 at Eventide Care Center in Moorhead. Arrangements have been at Wright Funeral Home. He will be buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver later this summer.

Nick (Ted) was born October 2, 1927, to John and Florence Nickell on a homestead on the plains of eastern Colorado near Limon. In 1951, he married Doris Elizabeth Nickell and they were married for 49 years before her death in 2000.

In 1945 Nick joined the Merchant Marines and later the U.S. Navy in 1948. He served on numerous ships including the USS Wyandot, USS Vandiver, USS Abbot, and the USS Decatur. He also taught engineering at Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, R.I. He retired as Senior Chief Boilerman in 1968.

After retiring he moved his family back to Colorado Springs where he resided for 20 years. During this time, he worked at the Post Office, the city power plant, the Garden of the Gods Country Club, Fort Carson, and the Air Force Academy. Nick and Doris moved to Aurora, CO in the late 1980s where he worked at Lowry Air Force Base until he retired in 1994.

Nick enjoyed camping in his travel trailer and fishing with family and friends. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve and the DAV. He enjoyed tinkering with engines and could fix almost anything. He loved watching sports especially the Denver Broncos, the Colorado Rockies, and later the MSUM Dragons. He moved to Moorhead, MN in 2012 to be closer to family. In 2018 he moved to Eventide Assisted Living in Moorhead.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, John and Florence Nickell, his wife Doris, his daughter Donna Greene, and brother and sisters: L. Arteen Middlemist, Jack Nickell, Bill Nickell, Alene York, and Bea Mitchell.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl Allie, Sulphur LA, Gary (Susie) Nickell (Moorhead) and Debra (Pat) McGlynn, Kansas City, MO., 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.
