Myrna Ann Harrington died at the age of 94 on January 4, 2026, in Dilworth, Minnesota. Myrna was born August 9, 1931, in Grandin, North Dakota, the daughter of Francis and Lucille Foster. She grew up in Grandin and went on to complete a teaching program at Mayville State Teachers College. At 18, Myrna began teaching at a one-room schoolhouse in rural Grandin. On August 19, 1950, she married Richard “Chick” Harrington and began life on the farm in the Grandin area. Once married, Myrna ended her teaching career and began raising their two sons, Steve and Rick. Over the years, the couple wintered in McAllen, Texas, and later Zolfo Springs, Florida. Myrna and Richard had a zest for adventure and enjoyed many trips to Europe with their dear friends, John and Phyllis Barker. They passed this love of adventure on to their two grandchildren, Aaron and Megan, taking them on trips to Yellowstone National Park, the Black Hills, and treating them to many visits to Disney World. When Richard passed away unexpectedly in July 2000, Myrna continued traveling and wintering in Florida. In 2005, she met and married Jim Tankersley. Jim and Myrna continued going on adventures around the world, including a trip to Lyon, France, and a cruise down the Panama Canal. In 2014, Jim passed away, leaving Myrna a widow once again. After Jim died, Myrna returned to Fargo to be closer to her children and grandchildren. At the time of her passing, Myrna was a resident at Lilac Homes in Dilworth, Minnesota, a facility that lovingly cared for her in her final year. The family extends its gratitude to the staff at Lilac who made her time there special. She will be remembered as a fiercely independent person with a zest for life, a desire to learn and experience new things through travel, a love of all things words—mystery novels, crossword puzzles, and Scrabble—and as a devoted sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
Myrna is survived by her two sons, Steve Harrington (Jodi) of Grandin, North Dakota, and Rick Harrington of Fargo, North Dakota, and two grandchildren, Aaron Harrington (Nikki) of Mapleton, North Dakota, and Megan Fraase (Justin) of North Liberty, Iowa. She is also survived by her brother and sister, Gene Foster (Margaret), of Fargo, North Dakota, and Joan Van Auken (Jim) of Laguna Hills, California. She was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Richard Harrington; infant son Roger Harrington; her second husband of 9 years, Jim Tankersley; and her brother Donald (Doris) Foster of Firth, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 10, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM, in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Interment will be at Quincy Cemetery, near Hendrum, MN, at a later date.
