Nicholas “Nick” M. Kohanowski

Nicholas “Nick” Maurice Kohanowski 72 died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on February 25 in Moorhead, Minnesota. Born August 22, 1943, in Trinidad, Colorado, the youngest child of Nicholas and Raphelita Mercedes “Babe” Kohanowski, Nick grew up in South America then Grand Forks, North Dakota. He joined the army, moved to Kansas City upon discharge, married Lois Nesbit in 1967. They raised their children in Cullman, Alabama. He graduated in Business from Middle Tennessee State University ’75. Nick moved to Moorhead in 1987 where he met his wife Julie in 1994. He is remembered for his devotion to God and family, 28 years of sobriety, and helping others find peace and acceptance. He was loved for his sense of humor and his willingness to befriend those who needed a shoulder and an ear. He is survived by his wife Julie Ann McCormack; children Nicholas Jennifer, Erika Mark, Jonathan Telesia, Scott Eli, and Shaun Jessica, stepchildren Anna Tim and Markus Megan; 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Nicholas, brother Frank Igor, and sister Tamara. Wake at 7 pm Monday, February 29, at Wright Funeral Home. Funeral at 11 am Tuesday, March 1, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, both in Moorhead reception following funeral. Burial will be at Fort Snelling at a later date. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nick’s life.
