Norma Jean Olson

Norma Jean Olson, 78, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. Norma was born in Moorhead on January 22,1944 to Arvid and Margaret (Riedel) Peterson and grew up near Hawley where they farmed. She attended Hawley High School and married Virgil Olson, on February 14th, 1964.  Their first home was in Dale, MN where they had their first child, Ross.  They later moved to their farm south of Hawley where they had their second child, Tiffany and where Norma still resided. Norma had a career as a legal secretary for many years in Moorhead, MN.  Norma had a love for all animals and was very active riding horse.  They hosted numerous English dressage and jumping horse shows. She also bred her beloved Bengal cats for many years.  She enjoyed working with 4-H, Hawley Golden Riders and Solem Lutheran Church.  Norma was known by many for her sense of humor, willingness to try any activity, and love for her family.

Norma is survived by her son, Ross Olson of Hawley, MN and daughter, Tiffany (Eric) Brown of Detroit Lakes, MN; granddaughters, Hadley, Lainey, and Lily Brown; sister-in law, Loureigne Kimm and two nephews, Chad (Kari) Peterson and Rod (Amanda) Peterson; brother-in-law, Roger (Nancy) Olson, two nieces, Sheri (Lorne) Wittnebel, Sandi Olson, and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil, and brother Vincent.

A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, June 12th, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7:00 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.   A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 13th, at 11:00 a.m., in Solem Lutheran Church, 3767 280th Street South, Hawley, MN. Following the service, lunch will be served at the HLS Parish Center, 423 6th St., Hawley.
