Patricia Ann Peterson

June 28, 1927 — January 5, 2023

Patricia “Pat” McGillivray was born June 28th, 1927 in Jamestown, ND, and died January 5, 2023 in West Fargo, ND.

Pat married Samuel “Sam” G. Rogers in 1957 in Fargo, ND.  They made their home in Detroit Lakes, MN where they raised their two children until Samuel’s death in April 1968.  Pat and Sam’s love of live music led them to organizing Friday and Saturday night dances featuring local bands at the historic Detroit Lakes Pavilion.

In May 1973 Pat married Frayne W. Peterson in Moorhead, MN, instantly creating a Minnesota version of the show “The Brady Bunch”!

Music was a part of Pat’s entire life from singing and dancing with her sister, Sally as a child, to the early years at the Detroit Lakes Pavilion, to beautifully playing the piano, especially classical music and American Standards.  She built a wonderful collection of vintage sheet music by going to auctions and garage sales.

In addition to music, Pat’s interests included cross-stitching, later in life came crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and the casinos.

Pat and Frayne enjoyed their trips to local casinos, where the penny and nickel slots got a workout by Pat, while Frayne put his skills to Blackjack.  No ledger was kept, so we may never know the net result of these ventures.

Pat’s passion for cross-stitching led to many beautiful creations including birth announcements, and too many sweatshirts to count for family members ranging from toddlers to adults.  Her most cherished creation was an American Indian Chief in full headdress, which won 1st Place and Grand Champion at the Red River Valley Fair.

Surviving family members include her husband Frayne Peterson, West Fargo, ND; daughter Nancy Rogers (Jim Birkel), Omaha, NE; stepsons Keith (Janet) McCarty, Elk River, MN; Kent McCarty, St. Paul, MN; Carlon (Joelle) Peterson, Big Lake, MN; Blaine (Kathy) Peterson, Burnsville, MN; grandsons Tyler Knudson, Bondurant, IA; Brady (Rachel) Knudson, Sioux City, IA; Jack Rogers, Moorhead, MN; Andrew Peterson, Grand Forks, ND; granddaughter Samantha Rogers, Fargo, ND;  great grandson Samuel Knudson, Sioux City, IA; brother James W. McGillivray, Cuba City, WI; sister Kitty Jo Graves, Jamestown, ND, daughter-in-law, Kathy Rogers, Moorhead,  and numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews

In addition to her first husband Sam Rogers, Pat was preceded in death by her son, Scott G. Rogers, a Clay County Minnesota Deputy who died in the line of duty July 2006; stepson Timothy McCarty, October 2019; brothers Jack McGillivray and Mike McGillivray; and sisters Sally Brastrup and Jean Charnetzki.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.  Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
