Obituary

Patricia Ann “Pat” Setter, 93, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, in Fargo, ND with family by her side.

Born on June 19, 1933, to M. Joseph and Rose Marie (Murek) Rush of Fargo, Pat attended Horace Mann Elementary and St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School. She graduated from Shanley High School in 1951 and continued her education at the Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Fargo. She graduated in 1954 and began her career as an RN.

A short time later, her beauty and charm caught the attention of a young Moorhead man, Don Setter. Don was fourth oldest in a family of ten children; Pat was an only child. As fate would have it, they shared the exact same birthday. The day they met was undoubtedly the luckiest day of Don’s life, as the two were married in April 1955 and they went on to enjoy 61 years together.

Don and Pat were blessed with five children. They raised their family in the home they built in South Moorhead. For more than 65 years, this house - affectionately known as “CLUB 1117”- was the center of their lives and heart of their family.

Nothing brought Pat more pride and happiness than her family. Creating a comfortable and welcoming home for all to gather and celebrate was always her highest priority. She decorated extensively for every holiday and loved hosting and entertaining. Her spaghetti dinners and brownies were legendary. Pat’s home reflected her impeccable taste, and she was always known for her classic sense of style and elegance.

Pat was also a prolific knitter, talented seamstress, party and class-reunion planner, crafter, cook, and “world-class” shopper. She poured her heart into every sweater, scarf, afghan, gift basket, “birthday box” and meal she created and shared with others. These gifts were her love language, and her generosity knew no bounds.

For over 30 years, Pat dedicated her professional life to nursing, serving in the labor and delivery units at St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, and later at St. John’s and Dakota Hospitals in Fargo. Her compassionate care and steady presence during life’s most precious moments left a lasting impact on countless families throughout the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Beyond her dedication to her career, Pat found much joy in the many memorable travel experiences she had with Don. Annual trips to South Bend, IN, for Notre Dame football games, lively casino excursions to Las Vegas and Hankinson, ND, and vacations to Ireland and Hawaii were unforgettable travel highlights.

Pat & Don were life-long members and supporters of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead. Pat was an active member of Catholic Daughters and loved the annual soup supper, where her large batches of chicken tortilla and tomato basil soups were favorites.

Pat was a woman of rare grace and virtue, beautiful both inside and out. She always sought to see the inherent good in everyone, and she never spoke unkindly of others. She was quick to offer comforting and encouraging words when they were most needed. To know Pat was truly to love her.

Above all, she was a devoted wife, an amazing mother, beloved grandmother, admired and cherished aunt, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and true friend. She was thoughtful, caring, faith-filled, strong and determined. She greeted everyone she met with her beautiful smile and open arms.

Survived by:

- Her five children: Terry (Paul) Sitarz, Shoreview, MN; Don (Renae) Setter Jr, Moorhead; Connie (Doug) Restemayer, Fargo; Kathleen (David) Smith, Fargo; Janet (Dan) Dryer, Scottsdale, AZ.

- Her sisters-in-law: Margaret Setter-Abbott (AZ), Jean Danielson, (MN), Shirley Setter, (UT), and Karen Setter, (ND).
