Phyllis Claudia Hukriede, 81, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away at the Frazee Care Center on January 16, 2026, surrounded by family.

Phyllis was born on January 27, 1944, to Jadie and Leola Newman in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Phyllis and Wayne married on March 14, 1964. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, MN, where they raised their four sons – Todd, Richard, Jeffrey, and Troy.

Phyllis received her GED at the Vo-Tech in Detroit Lakes, MN. In 1984, she graduated from the Vo-Tech with a degree in small business management. After graduating, she worked as an accountant. She retired in 2006.

Phyllis enjoyed many things. In the summer, you could find her tending to her flower beds or out camping. She enjoyed collecting dolls, especially ones that resembled her loved ones. She was extremely talented and spent her free time making and painting ceramics. She also made the most beautiful floral arrangements. She loved her family dearly, including her dogs, Teddy and Brady.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 61 years, Wayne; four sons – Todd (Denise), Richard (Christine), Jeffrey (Christie) and Troy (Charlene) Hukriede; eleven grandchildren – Tina (Brenton) Newling, Kayla (Josh) Hukriede, Trevor (Courtney) Dahl, Derick (Ashley) Hukriede, Cory (Cole) Hukriede, Steven (Shae) Hukriede, Chelsey (Devin) Hukriede, Wade (Steph) Hukriede, Jessica (Brandon) Duel, Jessi (Isaac) Clem, and Alexis Hukriede, and twenty-seven great-grandchildren; siblings – Wilfred, Irene, Doug, Brenda, and Sherry; and many nieces and nephews.

Greeted in heaven by her parents, Jadie and Leola Newman; sister, Beulah Newman; brothers, Jerry and David Newman; and sister-in-law, Margaret Newman.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
