Ruth Annette Torson passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025 at Edgewood Healthcare in Baxter, MN.
Ruth was born on September 11, 1928 to Otto and Anne Houg in Carlisle, Minnesota. Hard work was a part of everyday life as her family navigated the Great Depression and World War II. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School and attended one year of college at Concordia in Moorhead. Prior to finishing, she was recruited for a medical stenography job at a time when jobs were scarce, and ended up working there for close to 50 years.
Ruth married Ralph Torson, a lakes guy, on July 2, 1950. They brought up their family in Moorhead, MN, staying involved in the kids’ activities and sports and enjoying many longtime friends. They remained inseparable for 65 years.
Ruth’s greatest enjoyment was spending time at the Fish Lake cabin with Ralph, her children, grandchildren, and friends. Most of her family’s favorite memories took place in this tiny red cabin that Ruth and Ralph built themselves.
Ruth and Ralph’s identity revolved around their faith and church. They were loyal members of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for over 70 years.
Ruth is survived by son Robert (Beth) Torson, Omaha, NE; daughter Renae (Steve) Goll, Baxter, MN; nephew Art Hovde, Dickinson N.D; grand-children Andrew (Lori), Laura (J.D.) and Nicholas Goll; William (Jacque), John (Rachel), and Anne Torson; and seven great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph; parents Otto and Anne; her brother Obert (Mary); and grandson Daniel Torson.
